Devons and cats in general are amazing creatures. Knowing how and why they act the way they do only makes them
more interesting. We are lucky to be able to share our lives with such fascinating felines. Having said that many
Devons learn tricks especially with the help of treats! Lots of them will fetch toys and many like to jump from the floor
to your shoulder and ride there. Over the years we have had four different breeds of cats and by far the Devons are the
cleverest.
To keep your kitten/cat away from example going outside, use a water spray bottle: every time they step near the door,
spray their body (never face) with water. Your kitty will run away and eventually associate that area with water spraying
zone. What is better, since you are trying to establish a trusting relationship with your kitty, they associate the water
with that certain area and not as you punishing them. But be consistent with the water spray in respect to the behavior
or area, otherwise you will be training random conditioning or no change in his/her behavior.
It goes without saying, please never hit your cat or strike him/her with anything. You lose his/her trust and cause an
innocent naturally loving kitty/cat to become scared around humans and/or abusive Trust is key to successful training.
"Cats don't sit and plot to annoy humans or do anything out of spite." (Johnson-Bennet). She/He is just being a cat!
