If your vet recommends that you pursue several other vaccinations such as Feline Leukemia (FeLV), Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) or Ringworm, we advise against these. Recently, the American Association of Feline Practitioners (http://www.aafponline.org/) has revised their vaccination guidelines to remove the following vaccinations from their "core" vaccination recommendations:
FeLV -- Feline Leukemia. The AAFP advises that only cats in outdoor situations or who co-habitat with indoor-outdoor cats (both strictly forbidden under our contract) should be vaccinated for FeLV. They have also raised questions about the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine. Anecdotal evidence has long suggested that there is a relationship between cats vaccinated for FeLV, and the later onset of FIP in the same cats.
FIP -- Feline Infectious Peritonitis. The safety and effectiveness of this vaccination has also been questioned.
Ringworm -- The safety and effectiveness of this vaccination has also been questioned.
We believe that the use of these vaccinations is not only unnecessary, but can risk the health of not only the cat vaccinated, along with that of other cats in the household with them.
