Archicats Devon Rex is a small Southern California
home based cattery devoted to the wonderful Devon Rex
breed.

Love of Cats

My husband grew up with Mama-Kitty, a mixed breed
pregnant cat that found their home. When she was ready
to have her kittens, she would find him and pull on his
pant leg to follow her into his closet to help birth her
babies. This experience left an impression in his
childhood, although it was not to raise kittens, he
discovered his big love of cats. When I was a teenager,
my mother found a beautiful white mixed breed kitten
(Peash-sha-kak) that was my constant companion. But
my father discovered he had allergies to cats and very
sadly she was placed. I never forgot her.

Our Start

Soon after being married, my husband (Rick) and I would
often go to cat shows. Falling madly in love with our
Burmese pet, we began to show a kitten, where we saw
our first Devon (an odd-eyed white Devon Rex) at a CFA
(Cat Fanciers Association) show. Subsequently, we fell
in love with each Devon Rex we met at each show. We
later purchased a close relative of that first Devon Rex to
have a few very special litters per year and to show our
best kitten. This also began my journey in photography
with each litter and kitten, with some of my images being
featured in publications and magazines.

Breeding & Raising Kittens

We share our home, studio and office with our Devon
Rex family and young human son, Shaw. My husband's
office (an architect) and my art and photography studio
have become the kitty playground and our bedroom the
mom and newborn nursery. Shaw sleeps with a couple
of cats babysitting him. And, Rick having a couple sitting
on his drafting table watching him work, and as he often
says helping him design with paw marks all over his
plans. And, that is how we came up with our cattery name
- Archicat (ar-ka-cat).

As Devon Rex breeders we have a big responsibility to
the Devons we raise, own and place but also to the
breed in general. Most important for us is to breed
healthy cats that are raised in a good environment so as
to give them the best start in life as possible. They are
dearly loved family members and we strive to raise our
kittens to be typical Devons - loving, playful, outgoing,
interactive, cuddly and curious.

Health and temperament are crucial but we also strive to
breed cats with the Devon Rex appearance that we fell
so in love with. We love the large expressive eyes, giant
bat-like ears, and suede-like soft curly coat. We prefer the
more extreme Devon Rex type and aim to breed
according to the CFA (Cat Fanciers Association)
standard and as we register with CFA. Color is of no
significance to us, we aim for type to the CFA standard.

Since we can not keep all our kittens, we have pet kittens
available occasionally to become family members.
Where we will hopefully be updated often with stories
and photos of their lives with their new families. If you are
interested in an Archicats Devon Rex kitten or adult that
may become available, please fill our
